Summary

“A gothic ghost story.”

The Fox Sisters is a micro-opera based on the true story of the Fox sisters., who are credited with creating the spiritist movement. In 1848, in the state of New York, Kate and Maggie Fox had fun scaring their mother, claiming they could communicate with a ghost. Leah, their big sister, understood the business potential of exploiting her younger sisters as child prodigies in supernatural communications, and became their manager. Years later, Kate and Maggie had become famous mediums. But nevertheless, at the end of their lives they decided to withdraw from the new spiritualist religion, revealing in front of journalists and scientists all the alleged tricks they used in seances.

What People Are Saying

“Interestingly, the most applauded opera was the one that was apparently the most classical and fulfilled all the requirements of being an opera: unamplified voice, Italian staging, live musical ensemble playing with dark sounds and a brilliant conception of what is the performing art. The Fox Sisters by Marc Migó and with a libretto by Lila Palmer explores the causes and dangers of misinformation based on the true story of the Fox sisters, who founded the spiritualist movement in the mid-nineteenth century.”

Revista Musical Catalana

“The Fox Sisters by Marc Migó, [is] a gothic ghost story… with a skillful libretto by Lila Palmer and splendid stage direction by Sílvia Delagneau and music by Irene Delgado-Jiménez.”

“Impeccable dramatic construction.”

Opera Actual

“[The Fox Sisters] shines with an impressive and well-resolved work that should have a longer run, excellently defended by the singers, the string trio and the ingenious use of recorded elements.”
